PROCESS
I started with rough blanks, shaping them into an octagonal profile using a drawknife. This step was crucial for stripping away excess wood efficiently, preparing the legs for more detailed shaping.
Next, I took a hand plane to smooth the octagonal surfaces. This refinement process was about creating a clean, even base, making sure that each leg was prepared for the final shaping without any irregularities.
Finally, I rounded the legs from their octagonal shape into a bat-like form. This wasn't just for aesthetics; the unique shape also balances strength, ensuring that the legs are both visually striking and structurally sound.
I started by gluing two boards together to create a solid base, ensuring a strong foundation for the seat. After the glue set, I traced and meticulously carved out a reuleaux triangle, not just for its unique shape but also to precisely position the legs for stability.
Next, using a scorp, I carefully sculpted a comfortable depression into the center of the seat, designed to cradle and support. To highlight this ergonomic feature, I softened the bottom edges, adding a smooth finish that emphasizes the seat’s welcoming curve. The final piece merges functionality with a distinct aesthetic, offering both comfort and a visual treat to any observer.
